On March 6th the Coalition to Legalize Mixed Martial Arts in New York brings you a full day of events to support the legalization of live Mixed Martial Arts in New York State
Rally to Legalize Mixed Martial Arts in New York 11:30am – 1:30pm – Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Manhattan Office (633 Third Avenue, NYC, 10017) Michael Benjamin, former NYS Assemblyman and co-sponsor of the Assembly MMA bill. Mr. Benjamin has a long history in New York State government, politics, and human services. He is currently a political columnist and speaker.
Jim Genia, journalist and author of the acclaimed “Raw Combat: The Underground World of Mixed Martial Arts”. Based out of New York City, Jim has covered the sport since its inception and documented the effects of the live MMA ban on the local MMA community.

Open Mic: At the rally we will also hear from many New York based business owners and members of the MMA community who are demanding a public display of support from Governor Cuomo.
Mixed Martial Arts Documentary Film Festival

4:00pm – 8:00pm – The Theater Lobby at Madison Square Garden (7th Avenue at 32nd Street).
The Coalition to Legalize Mixed Martial Arts in New York, in association with Madison Square Garden and TaKe On Productions, will host a FREE M M A documentary film festival. Media and fan Q & A sessions with the Director and Producer will follow each film. RSVP to nymmanow@gmail.com to confirm your attendance.

4:00pm – World Premiere of “In Her Corner: The Inside Story of Women’s MMA”
This film features interviews with Munah Holland, Bjorn Rebney, and Roxanne Modafferi. (Run Time: 32 minutes)

4:45pm – Manhattan Premiere of “New York Mixed Martial Arts”
This film features interviews with Bas Rutten, Josh Barnett, Frank Shamrock, and many New York-based MMA
personalities. (Run Time: 60 minutes)
Produced by Stephen Koepfer. Directed by Kahleem Poole-Tejada.

6:00pm – New York Premier of “Fight Life”
Featuring interviews with Jake Shields, Miesha Tate, Nick Diaz, and Big John McCarthy. (Run Time: 72 minutes)
Produced and Directed by James Z. Feng

Mixed Martial Arts Trivia Challenge
Attendees of the rally and film festival will be challenged to answer MMA trivia questions for a chance to win prizes including MMA memorabilia and gear, and a pair of ringside seats for “Muay Thai at the Mecca” presented by TaKe On Productions at The Theater at Madison Square Garden.

  1. New York has often been referred to as the cultural hub of the world. It has also been the site of some of the biggest difficulties in the world of boxing going back to the days of Jack Dempsey. I believe that if New York would come on board to legalize MMA, it would also come on board with all of the “protective gear” needed to keep the sport clean and safe for MMA fighers. In that regard and to that end, NY could set a prime example for the MMA industry and be the “fight hub” of MMA.
